In the aftermath of WW1 William Spooner (OO during the mid 19th Century) insisted that New College Oxford (of which he was a member for 51 years) erect a plaque dedicated to all the students who served in the war that had attended the college. He insisted that the German students have their names remembered even if they fought against Great Britain. It was finally mounted within months of Spooner's death. This is the plaque today 05/11/2021.
